Available Scientific Resources

Helping investigators do innovative research is a central function of the KU ADC. We provide consultation, services, and research materials to investigators. Resources and services can be requested here.

Available Resources

We maintain a well characterized AD, mild cognitive impairment and aging control cohort (our KU ADC Clinical Cohort). These individuals are seen annually for an in-depth neuropsychological evaluation. They also provide biospecimens, including:

  • Brain Tissue
  • Buffy Coat
  • Cell-free Plasma
  • Cybrid Cell Lines
  • DNA
  • RNA
  • Muscle
  • Plasma
  • Platelets
  • Serum
  • Whole Blood

Our Biospecimens are linked to a rich clinical dataset:

The Data Management and Statistics Core manages the Researcher Resource Data Dictionary (R2D2), our descriptive dictionary of all the measures we collect annually on our 409 Clinical Cohort participants. R2D2 is the searchable catalog for our Curated Clinical Cohort Phenotypes and Observations (C3PO) database of over 1000 fields. We welcome data requests from researchers to ask disease or aging questions, or to generate preliminary data. Feel free to browse through R2D2 at  http://r2d2.kumc.edu/ADC/R2D2.jsp.

We can provide assistance with existing datasets and neuroimage archives, including:

We specialize in metabolism and mitochondrial function and have expertise in:

  • Physical fitness, glucose tolerance, metabolic rate, and body composition testing
  • Structural brain neuroimaging of humans and animals
  • Metabolic neuroimaging of humans and animals, including FDG PET, AV-45 and MRS
  • Biochemical assays
  • Platelet mitochondria enzyme activities, mitochondria O2 consumption, mitochondrial DNA heteroplasmy detection
  • Production and characterization of transmitochondrial hybrid cell lines
  • Brain protein aggregation assessments
  • WBC gene expression and gene sequencing
  • Cytoplasmic hybrid cell line creation and characterization
